Cell phones disappear daily. Some are simply misplaced but more often than not cell phones are stolen. For a thief, cell phones are a popular target because they are small, easy to take and easier to resell. The six “abilities” that make cell phones attractive to thieves are: concealability, removeability, availability, enjoyability, disposability and valuabilty. And here is an interesting fact about cell phones that go AWOL, 75% of them are Blackberries or iPhones! Stolen phones are usually sold on the black market and can fetch anywhere from $100 to $300 depending on the phone.
Many of us can identify with such a debilitating loss – the immediate panic that instantly floods minds and bodies, the frantic searching and accusations, the sense of hopelessness, worthlessness and overall disconnect from the world! Cell phone misfortune classifies as a significant issue forU.S.consumers today as 96% of the population use mobile phones.
