You were chosen as this month’s Innovator Member. What does being an Innovator mean to you?
Innovation for us means that we are taking a completely different approach to solving the health care crisis in America. There is currently a lot of focus on disrupting “health care” through technology advances, affordability, and accessibility. But at E Squared Health, our team is focused on improving health care by helping people improve their health through education and empowerment – getting ahead of the need for multiple medications, weight loss surgeries, and medically supervised diets.
We didn’t invent virtual health coaching, but we are innovators in our approach. At E Squared Health, we are the ANTI one-size-fits all health and wellness company. Our coaches aren’t afraid to tell people that there isn’t one certain “diet” that is right for everyone, or that everyone needs to do one certain type of exercise to be healthy. We also aren’t afraid to put on our expert hats when needed to make sure our client sees results. Too often, health coaches are taught to “let the client fully take the lead” and “let the client decide what they want to do”. We marry the coach approach and the expert approach to artfully help the client feel EMPOWERED but also become EDUCATED along their path to optimal health. We ensure that the client is setting goals that are not only realistic (letting the client lead), but also effective (our coaches are committed to ensuring that you see results).

No one likes to brag about their business, but if you HAD TO . . .
Not to brag but, we aren’t new to this space. We may be a start-up, but our team is comprised of individuals with decades of experience in health and wellness. Within two months of launching, our client base is growing ahead of plan, our clients are already seeing great success, and we have started to receive requests from a variety of companies to help support their health and wellness needs for their employees.

We learn from our mistakes, especially in business. Give us some words of wisdom.
Don’t stop learning. No matter what your business is, landscapes evolve and change occurs. You need to always be listening to your customers and watch the market to learn how to adapt your business.

What “teacher” has made the most impact on your life and why?
I worked for years at Life Time with Bahram Akradi, the founder of Life Time. He’s a relentless visionary who always puts the customer first. At E Squared, we look to apply the same principle of putting our clients first in everything that we do.

What might someone be surprised to know about you?
Most people are surprised to learn that Lauren (my wife) and I founded this company together. We share a common passion for improving health, and decided to take the leap and start this company with a group of really talented individuals. People ask if we get tired of spending so much time together, but it actually makes it more fun! Oh, and we have six kids, including 10 month old triplets!

If you could have only one super power, what would it be and why?
To be able to fly! Honestly, it just seems fun!

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve read or seen this week?
I have been following along with the health care venture of Jeff Bezos and Warren Buffett and recently read another article in which they named their CEO. I think they will produce something amazing in the health care space, but my fear is that it will be focused on technology advances and accessibility versus getting at the root of improving people’s health. The approach still feels very reactive instead of aiming at the true cause of the health care crisis, which is poor health literacy among Americans.

Why do you choose to WORK AWESOME at OffiCenters?
To be honest, we originally got an office here because it was affordable and accessible. However, we have really grown to love the ability to connect with other great business owners both in our office, and at networking events. The staff is really friendly, and we truly enjoy coming to work every day!

In addition to our Member Directory, how else can people CONNECT with you?
The biggest honor we could receive from anyone who wants to learn more is for someone to go online and follow us on social media. We are also always up for a networking conversation, so please also feel free to email us at connect@esquaredhealth.com
