Maria Maldonado with Trip4Care is a VirtualOffiCenters client and our Innovator client for the month of July. She returned to Minnesota last year to start her own business after leaving Portugal. At Trip4Care, we specialize in connecting patients needing high-value medical procedures with the best medical facilities in the world that can perform the surgery they need at the right time for the best price. Trip4Care provides medical concierge services that includes arranging travel, research, negotiating surgical prices, and coordination with the medical facility or hospital.
I was in London in 2013 completing the final phase of a consulting project for the Google UK Healthcare team when I realized the huge opportunity to improve accessibility to healthcare facilities and procedures through medical tourism. It was at that time that I began creating the business that would become Trip4Care. Having worked in a variety of countries and speaking several languages helps me to serve clients and communicate with medical facilities in many parts of the world. I am passionate about finding my clients the best possible care at the best facility for their needs, and assisting them through the entire process.
You were chosen as this month’s Innovator Client. What does being an Innovator mean to you? It means everything to me… it is Trip4Care’s competitive advantage. Being an innovator is not easy however… you have to inform and educate people constantly, so they can understand your value proposition, the reason of your existence. This is not an easy task. I am thrilled that with the innovative approach to health that Trip4Care offers, I am able to help people to achieve their health needs at a reasonable price with an outstanding quality and caring service.

We learn from our mistakes, especially in business. Give us some words of wisdom. At another time in my life, I started a business even though I knew it was not the right time. I made the mistake of not following my gut feeling, which kept reminding me that I should not proceed with the venture. This mistake resulted in a costly business failure. Make sure you find a way to combine your passions and strengths in your work and always listen to your guts.
Share the best advice you ever received. Be patient… persistent… stick with your idea… and work hard… sooner than later all the effort will pay off.
Describe your perfect day off. Spending quality time with my daughter Lara, my son Gabriel and my husband Jaime… biking, swimming at the beach, as well as cooking and entertaining with family and friends.
What might someone be surprised to know about you? I love Marathon running and oil painting.
Together we are stronger. Tell us something you like about being our client. I like very much the staff at OffiCenters, their professionalism and receptiveness to my different needs. I am also impressed by their initiatives regarding networking events, and the fact that you feel they are on your side on the journey of making your business a success.
If you could work anywhere under the sun, where would you choose? I would choose the island of Ibiza in the Spanish Mediterranean coast.
