February – Success
Martin Ring, Owner of Ring Construction and full-time client at Park OffiCenter is our February Success Client. Ring Construction was started by Martin’s father in the 1920’s, needless to say, running a successful construction business for over 9 decades merits a feature in our newsletter! Every business has a story, tell us yours. My Father started this business in the late 1920’s. He was an Engineer by trade. My Brother (Harold) and I grew up in the business. My first job in the Company was “Water Boy”. Harold and I took over the business in the 1930’s. We employed countless contractors and built many large buildings all over the United States.
You were chosen as this month’s Success Client, why? I really don’t know…I guess because we operated a successful construction business over 9 decades! I also served in the Air Force during WWII. I spent 3 years in China, where I flew at least 25 reconnaissance missions. I was 23 years old and had one child at that time so, coming home alive was a success of sorts also.
No one likes to brag about their business, but if you HAD TO…In the 1940’s we built a 1,000 bed VA Hospital in Albany, NY. That size was unprecedented in those days!
We learn from our mistakes, especially in business. Give us some words of wisdom. Be sure you have a proper bid – before you present it. Ring Construction never failed to complete a project, even if we didn’t profit from it!
Share the best advice your ever got. My Father taught me: “Your word is your bond”. He once turned down a bid that was $100,000 dollars less than what he had already agreed to – because he had given someone else his word!
Describe your perfect day off. Going fishing on Lake Minnetonka and eating the crappies, bluegills and sunfish we caught.
What might someone be surprised to know about you? On January 22nd I turned 96 years old and I still come to the office every day!
Together we are stronger. Tell us something you like about being our client. I like the view from my office. The people here are O.K. too. (Wink)
If you could work anywhere under the sun, where would you choose? Even though I have a home in Palm Springs and most of my family is in California, I love Minnesota! I was born and raised here. I love the changing seasons!
