Miller & Williams was formed when an attorney coming closer to the end of his career joined with an attorney just beginning his career. That generosity of mentoring created the foundation for my law practice today, and an enduring friendship.
You were chosen as this month’s Milestone Client. Tell us about your Milestone achievements.
I have long served clients with needs transcending three areas of law: business (incorporation, contracts, employment), estate planning (wills, trusts, probate), and real estate. Along the way I have also been engaged to argue positions — spoken and in writing — before city councils and courts, in order to persuade them of my client’s position or proposal. And most of my clients value me for my ability to communicate persuasively, distilling the facts and arguments into a concise and convincing statement to move their positions forward. That is why clients that started a small business that’s grown to a large business, maintain their relationship with me. And that is why clients keep coming back to me time and time again. They value my ability to communicate and persuade, and they value my work.
Share the best advice you ever received.
When asked about the best advice I have ever received, I could probably rattle off several words of wisdom about practicing law, or dealing with clients. But one practical piece of advice for daily living may transcend them all: “The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.”
Describe your perfect day off.
My vocation may be law, but my avocation is history. It’s not unusual to find me curled up with a biography or book of history on a quiet evening at home. History is often more entertaining than fiction. And as the old adage goes, those that don’t know history are doomed to repeat it (Edmund Burke).

With over thirty years’ experience in the law, I am now coming up on fifteen years with an office at Park OffiCenter. This has been the perfect place to practice law and leave behind the distractions of office administration that I once had. The support here has been fabulous.
If you could work anywhere under the sun, where would you choose?
Picking anyplace “under the sun” to work from sparks the imagination, and just asking that question has my thoughts drifting off to the quiet, sunny beaches of Santa Barbara.
