Every business has a story, tell us yours.
After several years as a retail manager, I finally gave in and joined my husband in his commercial cleaning business. That was 1987 and we’ve been working as a team ever since. We’ve owned 2 cleaning companies in different parts of the country, a virtual assistant business, started a membership website for cleaning business owners in 2005, and a marketing agency in 2013, which specializes in marketing for cleaning companies. We continue to evolve as business owners and love what we do as long as we can make a difference in the lives of our members and clients.
You were chosen as this month’s Innovator Member. What does being an Innovator mean to you?
For me, being an innovator means tapping into the issues clients are dealing with and coming up with a solution that works; and being agile enough to leverage your team when you anticipate the need for a new approach.
No one likes to brag about their business, but if you HAD TO . . .
We’ve helped over 12,000 cleaning business owners through our membership sites and have coached many of them from the struggling start-up stage to successful 7-figure companies.
We learn from our mistakes, especially in business. Give us some words of wisdom.
Don’t wait too long to build a solid team. You’ll stunt your growth if you think you need to do it all yourself.
What “teacher” has made the most impact on your life and why?
When I had the virtual assistant business I bartered with a business coach. She’s the one that gave me the kick in the pants I needed to start the membership site when she said, “Jean, why NOT you?”
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
When my husband Steve and I lived in Boise in the 90’s, we built a cabin in the Sawtooth Mountains by hand, just the two of us.
If you could have only one super power, what would it be and why?
A previous innovator said he’d like to be able to grant wishes and I think that would be the best super power! We see so much pain and suffering in our world today, it would be fun to spend all my time granting wishes anonymously, just to see the joy in someone’s face.
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve read or seen this week?
I just finished reading “High Performance Habits” by Brendon Burchard. One of the best tips I got from the book is about making transitions (moving from one activity to the next). Close your eyes for a minute or two and repeat the word release in your mind over and over. Start releasing tension throughout your each part of your body. Then you set an intention about what you want to accomplish in the next activity you’re about to start. It really works!
Why do you choose to WORK AWESOME at OffiCenters?
I have a completely virtual team, but last year I hired a local employee so we meet about once a week at Park OffiCenter. And since I primarily work at home, it gets me out of my office, which I love!
