We started our branding business because we wanted to help women grow their entrepreneurial efforts. As a photographer and a designer, we often partnered together on projects previously, because coordinating visual branding and photography is something that is important but not always done. Together we were able to provide visual branding for small business that included photography for the first time. We also found that most people who bootstrap their own businesses typically can’t initially invest a lot of money in branding or consulting, and often find it a source of financial burden, so we strive to create affordable resources for female entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and help them to DIY as much as possible.
You were chosen as this month’s Innovator Client. What does being an Innovator mean to you?
As the first local business (and only national business we know of) that incorporates photography into visual branding, we understand the importance of innovative ideas, and moving our industry forward. Being an innovator for Branding Babes means never accepting the status quo, and always finding new ways to serve our clients better and disrupt outdated industry practices.
No one likes to brag about their business, but if you HAD TO . . .
If we had to brag about our business we would say that we have the most fun branding process and that we have the most amazing relationships with all of our current and past clients. Our top priority is to support the start-up community, and we want everyone that interacts with our brand to have a good time, and feel a sense of community.
We learn from our mistakes, especially in business. Give us some words of wisdom.
The phrase “build it and they will come” is the exact opposite of running a start-up. Never develop a product or open a space, and expect people to show up. Marketing is a never ending process, and takes TIME.
Share the best advice you ever received.
Beware of burnout. It happens fast, and you CAN see it coming so take precautions and don’t overdo it.

What might someone be surprised to know about you?
Our founder Jo has a paralegal degree and an insurance license, and loves being able to help business get setup not just with brand and web design but also on the legal side. Paperwork can be fun, too!
