Book Recommendation from Lori Spiess, CEO of OffiCenters
It's been a long time since I have enjoyed a business book as much as I have enjoyed How to Work with Complicated People by Ryan Leak. And I am a huge reader!
This book details how to communicate effectively in complex environments. Our community has such a great mix of businesses and individuals, that I purchased this book for our OffCenter team. We all need effective strategies to collaborate with nearly everyone. Especially the picky, prickly, and problematic ones! This book showed me how to see individuals as human beings to understand rather than a problem to be solved. Complicated people are a widespread problem. Nearly 1 in 2 Americans say they deal with complicated people daily or multiple times a day in the workplace. A whopping 78% say they deal with them weekly. More than 3 of 4 working Americans (77%) agree than complicated individuals are a serious problem in most work cultures, while 85% say it is important to the success of their job to work effectively with these individuals. Nearly half of workers say dealing with complicated people can make them hate their job, disrupt the workspace, be responsible for worse communication, low morale, and eroded unity and trust among coworkers. Not to mention the toll on our mental health. As I look around and understand these theories, I know that I, too, am a complicated person. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has to work with, deal with, or wants a better understanding of the complicated people in your life. And you could learn some things about yourself as well.
