March – Service of the Month
Still using slides or nothing at all? Everybody has gone digital! What’s surprising is how poor some digital presentations can look. It’s time to upgrade the quality of your visuals, whether in print or on screen. So, before you launch your next presentation, let VirtualOffiCenters help. Our team can help Punch-Up your PowerPoint so you’ll look like the professional that you are! And, here’s a bonus…some simple but helpful pointers to keep your presentation from derailing
1. GET A REMOTE
There is nothing less engaging than watching someone deliver a speech hunched over their keyboard, talking to their monitor and ignoring their audience. It’s bad technique and unprofessional. Get a remote! You can buy one for under $50, or if you have a smart phone…there’s an app for that! You can turn your phone into a remote and guess what? There are several free ones, try iClickr PowerPoint Remote Lite for your iPhone or the PowerPoint OpenOffice Remote for your Android phone.
2. ZOOM IN & MAXIMIZE YOUR IMAGE SIZE
Re-cropping or re-shooting images may take extra work, but it will make your presentation more entertaining and your audience won’t have to squint and strain to see the microscopic nuances that you are talking about. Our advice is to always keep in mind what the back row of a room will see while building your presentation.
3. KEEP IT SIMPLE
Creative transitions, exciting sound effects and crazy backgrounds are fun…but they are extremely distracting! Use simple, clean backgrounds, smooth cross fades between slides and the same readable font throughout your presentation. Don’t cram too much text onto one slide. Avoid this by using nothing smaller than a 24-point font.
4. TRUST NO ONE & AVOID DISASTER
We live in a world where we are totally dependent on technology. The problem is that technology is not totally dependable. VirtualOffiCenters says, GET PARANOID! Save your presentation on a flash drive and down load it onto your smart phone just in case your laptop fails you, bring extra batteries for your remote, a charger for your smart phone, bring extra cords and a connector that lets you plug into any projector, get there early so you can test your gear, move the screen and adjust the lights. Special note to Apple users: We live in a PC world; make sure you bring your iConnectors!
5. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE
You want your presentation to run smoothly and to keep your audience’s attention. You cannot accomplish this if you do not practice, practice, practice! Your presentation should be to the point, focusing on one topic and don’t make your presentation longer than it needs to be, you will lose your audience to boredom.
